Sperm Tail: It consists of a flagellum. It helps in swimming. This ability to swim is essential for male fertility as the sperm has to swim up the vaginal canal, cervix, and uterine canal to reach the ovum for fertilization.
Functions of Sperm Tail
- The tail provides motility to the sperm.
- The tail has a continuous whipping movement which leads to the movement of the sperm toward the egg.
- The tail moves with whip-like movements back and forth to propel the gamete towards the egg.
