Law of Inertia: The Law of Inertia, also known as Newton’s First Law of Motion, states that an object at rest will remain at rest, and an object in motion will remain in motion with a constant velocity, unless acted upon by an external force. In other words, objects will continue to do what they are already doing, whether that is staying still or moving in a straight line at a constant speed, unless an outside force acts on them.
Importance of Law of Inertia
The Law of Inertia, also known as Newton’s First Law of Motion, is important for several reasons:
- Foundation for understanding motion: This law provides a foundation for understanding how objects behave in the absence of external forces. It helps explain why objects at rest stay at rest and why objects in motion continue to move in a straight line at a constant speed.

- Safety considerations: The Law of Inertia is also important for safety considerations.
