Notes: Officials such as governors, senatis, judges, and other related public officials were given land in lieu of cash wages. Epigraphic and literary sources indicate that in northern India, especially in Uttar Pradesh, central India, Rajasthan, Malwa and Gujarat, the rulers assigned villages as gifts to the feudal lords. Individuals also received lands for special heroic deeds.

[D] Rumi Khan
Notes: In 1535, the Turkish gunner Rumi Khan was made the Sultan master of Chittor by Bahadur Shah. Rumi Khan, however disappointed at the Sultan’s refusal to make him governor of chittor, decided to betray him. The opportunity arose before long, when humayun, in pursuit of bahadur, reached Mandasor.

Notes: Raja Kumbha is said to have been proficient in the Vedas, Smritis, Mimamsa, Upanishads, Vyakarana, politics and literature. He wrote commentaries on Jayadeva’s Gitagovinda and on Chandisatakam.

Notes: Sultana Chand Bibi (1550–1599 CE) was an Indian ruler and warrior. She acted as the Regent of Bijapur Sultanate during the minority of Ibrahim Adil Shah II in 1580-1590, and regent of Ahmednagar Sultanate during the minority of her great nephew Bahadur Shah in 1595-1600.

[D] Alauddin Khilji
Notes:
Jalal-ud-din Khalji was the first Khalji ruler of the Delhi Sultanate. He was killed by his cruel nephew and son-in-law Ala-ud-din Khilji when he arrived to dinner with him. After reaching close to Kara, he directed Ahmad Chap to take his main army to Kara by the land route, while he himself decided to cross the Ganges river with a smaller body of around 1,000 soldiers. On 20 July 1296, Alauddin had Jalaluddin killed after pretending to greet the Sultan, and declared himself the new king.
