Fundamentals of Computer Notes: Computer fundamentals are a common topic for most Government exams, especially the Bank, Railway and SSC exams conducted in the country. It must be noted that very basic questions are asked from the computer section for most Government exams as the weightage of marks is not very high for this section.

• Hardware: This includes all physical components of a computer such as the central processing unit (CPU), motherboard, hard drive, memory, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and other peripherals.
• Software: These are programs and applications that run on a computer. Examples include operating systems, word processors, web browsers, and games.
• Operating system: The operating system (OS) is the software that controls the computer’s basic functions and manages the hardware and software resources. Common examples of operating systems include Windows, macOS, and Linux.
• Input/output devices: These include keyboards, mice, scanners, printers, and monitors, which allow the user to interact with the computer.
• Data storage: This refers to the ability of the computer to store data and information, including text, images, and videos. Data can be stored on hard drives, solid-state drives (SSDs), and other storage devices.
• Processing speed: The processing speed of a computer is determined by the clock speed of the CPU, measured in gigahertz (GHz). A faster CPU can perform more tasks in less time.
• Memory: Memory, also known as RAM (random access memory), is used to temporarily store data that is being used by the computer. The more memory a computer has, the faster it can perform tasks.
• Binary system: Computers use the binary system, which consists of only two digits (0 and 1), to represent data and instructions.
• Networking: Computers can be connected to form networks, allowing them to share data and resources.
• Internet: The internet is a global network of interconnected computers that allows users to share information and communicate with one another.
