Difference Between Chordates and Non Chordates: Chordates and Non-chordates are primarily differentiated by the presence or absence of an important structure called the notochord at some point in their lifecycle. However, there are many more differences that separate these two groups of organisms. 

Difference Between Chordates and Non Chordates

Chordates Non-chordates
Notochord present. Notochord absent.
Central nervous system is dorsal, hollow and single. Central nervous system is ventral, solid and double.
Pharynx perforated by gill slits. Gill slits are absent.
Heart is ventral. Heart is dorsal (if present).
A post-anal part (tail) is present. Post-anal tail is absent.
