For example, if a car travels a distance of 120 kilometers to the east in 2 hours, then its average velocity is:

average velocity = displacement / time = 120 km east / 2 hours = 60 km/hour east

Therefore, the car’s average velocity is 60 kilometers per hour to the east.

Average speed, on the other hand, is the total distance traveled by an object over a certain period of time, divided by the time taken to cover that distance. It is a scalar quantity and does not include information about the direction of motion. Mathematically, it can be expressed as:

average speed = distance traveled / time

where distance traveled is the total distance covered by the object during the time interval, and time is the duration of the interval.

For example, if a car travels a distance of 120 kilometers in 2 hours, then its average speed is:

## Difference between Average Velocity and Speed
